What To Do If Your Toilet Overflows- Cleveland, TN

We’ve seen it countless times- In fact, it’s not an uncommon plumbing problem. It often happens because of either a blockage or an error in the tank float mechanism that regulates water flow.
Step 1
When it does happen, you must first locate your water shut off valve near the base of your toilet. Turn that valve until the water shuts off completely. If your toilet does not have a shut off valve, open the tank and ensure that the float stays in the same position as to not let any more water fill the tank.
Step 2
If you know there is a foreign object that is preventing the toilet from flushing, grab a plunger or some rubber gloves and try to remove it. If these steps do not work, contact a plumber as soon as possible, as it may be a result of a larger plumbing issue.
Step 3
Remember, all water that comes out of a toilet is considered “dirty” water, regardless of how clean it looks. If there is only a small amount of water, clean up the water with a Shop-Vac or towels and be sure to disinfect all surfaces that were dampened by the toilet water. If any water reached the walls, cabinets, air vents, or other surfaces, call SERVPRO of Bradley County at (423) 614-5552. The mess may look like it is cleaned up, but water quickly seeps behind walls, in cabinets, and under floors. Our technicians will use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to detect this unseen moisture. We will then clean up the standing water and use air movers and dehumidifiers to rid the area of any moisture as to prevent mold growth.
