On any large commercial loss, we send our Emergency Readiness Coordinator to complete an ERP and Matterport scan before work is started. We are able to capture the damage before work is started for insurance purposes. For example, we completed several Matterport scans to send to insurance agents and adjusters when the tornado occurred because they were unable to travel due to COVID-19. You have probably heard of our SERVPRO ERPs (Emergency Ready Profiles). As we conduct ERPs in commercial buildings, we also add water and gas shut off tags to the appropriate shut offs. We add these tags as a helpful indication if you ever have an emergency in your home. For example, if a pipe bursts or a leak happens in your home or business, the first thought to cross your mind should be to turn off the water.

If the leak is from a sink or a toilet, it is easy to turn off the water for that line by turning the valve that is located beneath or beside the fixture. Fire Damage at a Local Cleveland Staple

On Halloween morning, we received a call from management at Jenkins Deli explaining that they had a kitchen fire early that morning. An employee turned on the stove to heat up, not realizing that there was a fire hazard. The stove caught a small portion of the kitchen on fire, however, smoke and soot traveled through the entire restaurant.

The fire department arrived on scene within 4 minutes to eliminate the fire. Their quick response alleviated further damage. Our team immediately geared up and headed towards the Cleveland staple to assist with the damage. We spent the next several days cleaning every inch of the space. If you've visited Jenkins Deli, you know that the walls are filled with memorabilia from the last 40+ years. It was vital to clean each and every item so the smoke smell would be gone.

SERVPROXIDE - What Is It And How Does It Clean Contaminated Water?

Many people don't know that SERVPRO corporate employs its own chemist, who formulates and manages the company's own line of cleaning products. This is to ensure that the products we use are safe and friendly to the customers we serve in Cleveland, Bradley County, Hopewell, Charleston, and beyond. SERVPRO of Bradley County regularly uses one of our newer products, SERVPROXIDE, on job sites that have contaminated water or mold. SERVPROXIDE is an EPA-registered, stabilized chlorine dioxide-based disinfectant and sanitizer. 

Because many of the jobs we work on involve contaminated water or sewage, we use this cleaner to eliminate harmful bacteria, viruses, and molds. SERVPROxide effectively removes any remaining contaminants from hard surfaces and sanitizes soft surfaces. It leaves a faint odor that quickly dissipates with air circulation. This product contains a PH level of 8.5-9.5, which means it carries the EPA's lowest toxicity rating and is safe for everyday use. A Look Into Our In-Facility Storage Vaults

What most people don't consider when thinking about a fire or water loss is where their things go to be stored before and during the cleaning process. Here at SERVPRO of Bradley County, we have in-facility storage. This means that when your contents leave your home, they are brought here to be securely housed in the vaults in our climate-controlled storage facility.

The 10x10 vaults are used to physically store the contents. When it is time to clean the affected contents, they are removed from the vaults, cleaned thoroughly by one of our textile professionals, and then placed in a new vault with a label stating they have been cleaned and which of our technicians did the cleaning. When all of your contents have been cleaned, they are then transported back to your property to be reorganized into your home.

Rather than being in a self storage facility where it is susceptible to mold growth, theft, and overall deterioration, your contents are safe and secure in our in-house storage facility while your home is being restored. We understand first-hand the panic and confusion when you have to move your contents out of your home after a fire or water loss. Contents Management in Our Ooltewah Facility

Our 15,000 square foot facility houses 30+ storage vaults for your damaged contents.

When you experience a fire or water in loss in your home, you might not realize the extent of damage to your contents. It can be overwhelming to deal with cleaning all of your damaged furniture, clothing, kitchen items, etc. Whether it is in-house cleaning or sending it to a specialist, our team is certified to clean and safely store your contents. Rest assured we handle your contents with care and precision knowing they are sentimental to you and your family.

Here are the steps that will take place after a fire or water loss occurs:

1. Our team will safely pack up your property while our contents manager documents each and every item that we pack. When your property is damaged enough to require floor replacement, new drywall, or new painting, our team will bring your contents to our facility. Your contents are then safely cleaned and stored the SERVPRO of Bradley County facility in individual vaults while your house is being renovated. 
2. After your contents have safely arrived at our facility, our team then works on drying wet items, wiping soot damaged furniture, and utilizing our ozone room. Rest assured that your contents are handled with extreme care by our highly trained restoration crew. 
3. Once the restoration process is complete and your home or business is back to preloss condition, we will repack your contents after cleaning and bring them to your home to unpack and place the items in their original positions.

Bradley County Courthouse Fire- Cleveland, TN

On September 30^th, 2017, a fire broke out in the mechanical room of the Bradley County Courthouse. Luckily, it occurred on a Saturday when the building was empty. The firefighters arrived on scene within minutes to extinguish the fire. While the fire was contained in one room, that particular room housed the HVAC system that filtered through the entire building. As you can imagine, the HVAC unit spread smoke and soot through nearly every vent in the building. There was minimal fire damage and very little water damage, but the soot coated walls, floors, furniture, and the air conditioning system.

SERVPRO of Bradley County called out to the scene

SERVPRO of Bradley County was called to the scene to assess the damage. We began fire restoration immediately to clean the smoke and soot damage. After the cleaning was complete, our Reconstruction team began construction on the 55-year-old building. The HVAC system had to be replaced along with the ventilation system, as well as new drop ceilings, lighting, and plumbing.

Running into unseen obstacles

I spoke with Dan, our Reconstruction Project Manager, on the timeline of this project. He explained that when inspectors came to approve the building post remediation, they found that many of the old building’s features were no longer up to code, thus creating a long list for our Reconstruction team that would take several months to complete.

• They had to install a sprinkler system because the building was not originally built with one.
• They had to change 70% of the doors in order to meet ADA requirements.
• They had to install a brand new security system they required rewiring in the building.

Needless to say, the 1964 Courthouse required quite a facelift!

 A Successful End Product

Dan is proud to say that the Bradley County Courthouse is now an old shell of a building complete state-of-the-art equipment, high-tech security systems, and much needed updates. The employees have moved back in and the Courthouse is officially back in business. “I’m proud of the final product- we started with an old, outdated building and turned it into a modern facility.”

How SERVPRO of Bradley County Gets the Smoke Odor out of Your Clothes and Belongings

At our new facility in Ooltewah, TN, we have something called an “Ozone Room”. Sounds cool, right? It is! When you have a fire in your home or business, some of your contents may not have been directly affected by the fire. However, they still may have soot and smoke odor. Similarly, your clothes will smell heavily of smoke after sitting by a campfire for a few hours.

After you have experienced fire damage in your home, SERVPRO of Bradley County professional technicians will bring your belongings to our ozone room at our facility and store them in vaults until they are ready to be cleaned. In the ozone room, the items are confined in a small space where they are exposed to high levels of ozone. The ozone molecules attach themselves to the smoke and soot molecules, essentially destroying the molecule.

Ozone is very effective in elimination odors, especially odors of an organic nature.
